TV is on just as it always is, its showing an interview with a Lady from Britain, they ask her about her trip to Iran, she says its been so nice lovely and she had liked the architecture and art of iran and also she thinks that iranian people are so nice and kind, then they ask her what she thinks about iranian women, she says that first she had thought it was so constraining that iranian women had to wear scarves but then after she had tried it she had liked it! then she says that when she comes back to Britain in the airport she had taken off her scarf and she had felt like being naked and unsecure!.. i dont know why this lady didnt mention that if she had liked it this much, why didnt she continue wearing it?!
then it shows some parts of the video she had taken in iran walking in a park with her friends while she was wearing a red nice light scarf which was so much different from what we have to wear in universities or at work!..
i dont blame her of course, she had just said her opinions, as a tourist it had been fun to her carrying this light red handkerchief on her head for few days, but when you are born here as a muslim girl and you are about to live here a whole life, things get different. Me, as a girl who loves working and never ever is going to become a house wife, i know that i will have to wear serious heavy dark colored hijab, at least 8 hours a day for ever, this fact is powerful enough to make me mad! even if hijab brings security for women (that i belive in opposite, it cause to unsafe situations for them) still this little bit of security is not worth it standing such a nasty dress code!
Why and why shouldn't iranian governmental TV ever ask an IRANIAN lady what she thinks about hijab? those who agree with hijab have told what they think but those who doesnt like it (me for example!) never been able to say their words, if you search all controlled media in iran, tv, radio, magazines, newspapers, you can find nobody expressed anything negative about hijab though i know thausands of women hate hijab and wear it just and just because they have to...!
YES, these islamic new-born noblemen governing Iran try hard to pretend that everybody in this world loves the same nasty superstitious islamic laws as they love! shame on them!

Dear Fatema,
For some reason I can not answer to your e-mail, so I am writing again here, hope it is ok! Regarding what you said,
don't worry, I am going to publish only what you want me to! And thank you very much for your help, honestly!
Well, first of all, I would like to learn some things about you, you know, where do you live, what is your age, do you study or do you work, etc. Feel free to write anything you want, no pressure, just to know you better! Then, I would like to know what made you open a blog, why did you feel that need. Is it something many Iranians like to do? Do you feel free to write there anything you want? And in the real life? Could you please talk to me a bit about that? What are your fears and your hopes, the complaints you have, the problems, the contraints you face? Will you vote in the elections next week? What do you expect of them? And the West -Europe, America etc. How do you feel about them?
I hope I am not asking too much! Write me anything you want. Just so you know, my name is Kitty, I am 32 years of age and I work in the newspaper for five years now...
Hope to hear from you soon!
K.
PS: Please answer directly to my e-mail adress, in case you forgot it is kxenaki@dolnet.gr
Thanks!!
The british lady must've had fun since it was a one-time new experience. It's always fun to try new things, but not as fun when having to bear with them for a lifetime.
However, is it strictly illegal not to wear a hijaab in Iran or is it simply a taboo?
It is strictly illegal not to wear hejab, means, if you are walking on steet and then you decide to take off your scarf and let your hair get fresh air for a while, the police can arrest you and send you to jail! very simple and clear, this is what illegal means,,,,
I completely agree with what you say. I myself come from and a highly educated family, currently living in swiss. It is true that in terms of safe gaurding our women, we are overburdening them with rules, but you yourself have to come up with a solution for the same. I have lived in swiss, my grandparents have been very conservative but our generation is a mix. I have seen girls around in swiss/west society, the kind of insecurity and the kind of exploitation which happens here is not aware. Dont be just amazed by the western society, as it is hypocratic. I would encourage change with in, with out external pressure. How can any one understand the necessities and suffering unless you speak out to your own people. It would be ashame for us, that we are not hearing to our own people. But remembering one thing, there are forces outside whose basic intent is to destablise the region for their own socio-economic reasons. The social structure here is so insecure, that actually they donot trust their own partners. Which leads to larger divorce rates, children suffer from psychological problems, they are illcultured and illmannered. They donot tend to learn to respect individuals, as they are. You should be watching the western society operas, life styles. You should be aware of it.I would suggest you as an individual should come out and discuss with your fellow women, and with in perimeters of our culture and religion, we should encourage change from with in, rather than seeks external help.Every one has either a mother, sister or wife, you people can discuss with in yourselves and represent peacefully to iranian parliament to debate and come with a solution. But realise one final bottom line."LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE HISTORY- IRAQ WAR, DEMONIZATION OF ISLAM" is a propaganda tool of the west. We will end up like "RED AMERICANS" or "AFRICAN RACE", who are at the mercy of others. It would be wise to learn from events happening around the world. As there is 100% possibility "THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US". Hope you have got my message. A change from with in, would always make our future generation look up on us with PRIDE, lest, if we seek external help, OUR future generations would be ashamed of us, that we had to seek external help.
I'm Saviour Agius btw.
That's really a shame. I hope the elections will bring some change, which I doubt, but never give up, if it's not this time, there may be another chance.
This is always the same around the world. The authorities oppress the minorities with their views. If they like something, others have to like it too.
Dear Fatema, I am one of those Muslims in the world who took up Hijab at my personal desire and believe in its importance as given in the book. I am from a secular country in which the majority is Christian and every institution is not at ease with women wearing Hijab and participating in normal daily activities. This thing is unfair but it can never keep us from expressing our selves through our dressing (I personally believe that the way we dress is the way we want to express ourselves)
Well, what I’m trying to say is that it’s always unnatural and depressing when people try to suppress your freedom of expression (that is of course dress code of your interest in this particular case). I therefore oppose both sides in which, when the Muslim girls are denied Islamic dress code preferred by them, as well as your case in which, Muslim girls want to choose there own style but again denied their preference by the state.
So I say policy of imposing things people don want to do is always open to collapse. We should therefore be strong in our struggle for freedom. However, we should be very vigilant about what we are asking for, because some times it could be the case that we want the thing removed just because its put and implemented by those we hate.
Fatema if you don’t mind me asking, why do you hate Hijab? Is it because you have been forced to wear or you never see the need for it? I dono, I think this is too personal. But any ways I appreciate your blogge and I promise I will be reading and participating Inshallah.

Hi, my name is Rania and I am from Greece. I cannot say that I can understand what you have been through because the situation you describe is totally unknown to me.
However I would like to say that I cannot help but getting extremely angry each time I hear people using the name of God, Allah, or whoever else (I am sure that He is the same "Power" one no matter how we call him) in order to make us behave in a certain way, to manipulate our way of thinking and to tell us how we MUST live our lives. I get furious when people are doing awful things to each other in the name of God, when they are using His name or His will in order to justify their actions.
Take care

Actually, you can't blame the foreign lady... When a foreigner found something new, it's pure excitement and since there is no need for long term association with it, it is usually that way.
And most importantly, why would she condemn Iran for no personal reasons? She did love her tour, didn't she.
I saw the protest... Wow... That kinda massive protest won't happen for many years in Singapore.
Kitty has better not to anyohow write... Cos Iranian politics may not be so nice to Iranian Girl if that piece gets their attention.
Best regards.
You can try mysingaporenews.blogspot.com to talk about current affairs. I am around there as well. :D And I am one of those pro-political elements. :D Though I have no interest in attacking your great govt.

Hai, I'm Reen from Malaysia. I just surfing through and I found your blog. It's nice to know other Muslim's opinion from other country. Yes, I would like to ask you a question, why you guys need to wear only black whole body covered hijab? I mean, in Malaysia, we do wear scarf covering our whole hair, neck, and even chest. Long t-shirt and pants also acceptable. Colours are fine. As long as our skin is covered and no tight clothes. Is that rule from your government or your belief? Thanks.
Mail me back if possible. azreen_31@hotmail.com

Hi Fatema,
I am an Iranian man living outside Iran. I have read some of your diary or better say your opinion.
I am really proud of you and women like you. Difference between you and most of women here is that they almost have everthing but knowledge. You have good vision and knowledge. I hope you get what you want in your life. I wish you luck and success.
she liked to wear it during one minute!
If that’s the primary objective of U.S. now, if all we focus is SEX on earth, why not make a blog dealing with SEX in Heaven and save U.S. from the angst?? God bless you.
